About Gout

What is gout?

Gout is more than an inconvenient occasional pain in the foot; it is a serious health condition.
Imagine the pain and damage associated with shards of glass inside your joints and accumulating throughout your body. Only the shards aren't glass, they are needle-like crystals of uric acid. Uric acid is a natural byproduct of protein metabolism in our bodies. When uric acid production and elimination are normal it is usually filtered out of the body painlessly by the kidneys. But when there's too much of the acid in the bloodstream, it begins to accumulate in the joints and throughout your body.
