Certain foods and beverages contain concentrated amounts of purines.  In general, high-purine foods are also high-protein foods and as purines are metabolized they turn into uric acid in your body. Examples of purine-rich food include seafood, meat, beer, and foods and drinks with high levels of fructose (sugar). Watching what you eat and drink are the first steps in controlling gout symptoms.
