Factors Associated with Gout

Gout is caused by too much uric acid in the body.  Some individuals produce too much uric acid ('over-producers') and others are unable to eliminate sufficient levels uric acid ('under-excretors').  Gout can impact anyone with certain factors increasing the risk:

Family History: If you have family members with gout you are at higher risk.  Having gout at a young age combined with a family history may indicate a need for more aggrssive treatment which should be discussed with your physician.
